Founders Breakfast Stout

12 oz. Bottle

One of my all time favorite oatmeal stouts of all time. Though that's not really saying much, as I haven't really experienced too many of this type of stout that I enjoy.

FBS pours incredibly dark with very little head from the bottle (about a fingers thickness worth of head on tap). On the first smell, you get hints of oats, coffee, and chocolate (it's called oatmeal double chocolate stout for a reason). Upon first sip, you get a burst of chocolate, oats, and coffee (and because of this a tad of bitterness), with hints of vanilla, and a slightly smokey character; though I must say what really surprises me about this stout is how hearty it is. While drinking this for the first time, I was incredibly surprised by the texture of this beer - almost actually oatmeal like in its drink-ability, but surprisingly smooth for being so thick (I know, sounds like a clear conflict of beer interest, but trust me on this one).

The combination of flavors, which, when combined with the velvety, hearty texture that interacts with a medium/low amount of carbonation, is for me a unique beer experience. For 8.3% ABV, the alcohol goes mostly unnoticeable.

A great beer for the winter, not so sure you'd want to enjoy more than one of these on a hot summer day.

Overall Rating: 4.75/5 - I definitely recommend this beer.
